Neues Schloss

Neues Schloss

Charles Eugene, Duke of Württtemberg (1744-1793) was the last in Germany to have a large baroque residential palace built when he appointed the construction of the Neues Schloss (new palace) – he wanted to turn Stuttgart into a second Versailles. The palace was reconstructed between 1958 and 1964 after having been destroyed in 1944. Nowadays it is used for receptions and events by the state government. The side wings host Baden-Württemberg’s ministry of finance.
