The fifth New Fall Festival
The fifth New Fall Festival lasted five days for the first time, had new venues such as the Capitol theatre and also provided space for readings and the pop culture congress “Electri_City – electronic music from Düsseldorf”. The concerts of BOY, Apparat, Alligatoah & RheinBrass and Olli Schulz as well as the reading by Thees Uhlmann were sold out. The pop festival counted 12,500 visitors for the first time. All 21 concerts and readings took place in seven different locations including the Tanzhaus NRW, the NRW Forum, the Hotel Nikko and the Johanneskirche. English style icon Marianne Faithfull brought her audience in the Capitol theatre to tears, Norwegian songwriter Bernhoft enchanted with his falsetto voice and beautiful guitar-playing in the Robert-Schumann-Saal and German rapper Alligatoah performed together with the RSH college’s brass orchestra – a unique experiment that delighted the audience of the Tonhalle.
Olli Schulz & Band brought the festival to an end in the Capitol theatre, which was also sold out and thus made a successful debut as one of our venues. The musicians themselves would often remark how impressed they were by the locations. The duo BOY left the festival saying: “What a night! Thanks a lot for the amazing view, Düsseldorf.”
