2012 The second time
In 2012, New Fall Festival presented once more an elegant mix of international stars and promising newcomers. The programme ranged from Oscar winners to insiders’ tips, from folk to dance with nearly any shading in between. The Notwist brought their own wind section to the show at Tonhalle, and with their mix of indie, electronic and orchestral music they embodied perfectly the crossover philosophy of the festival. Oscar-winning pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto encountered the electronic music of Alva Noto at Tonhalle, while Get Well Soon thrilled the audience at Robert-Schumann-Saal and received standing ovations. The internationally known Caligola, Tindersticks or Dillon, but also their support acts shaped the top-class line-up of the festival. Bands like Ewert & the Two Dragons, Stealing Sheep or the locals Stabil Elite, winner of the new established state-funded prize popUP NRW, made the festival once more a radar for young uprising talents. In its second edition the festival took place for the first time under the patronage of Düsseldorf’s head mayor Dirk Elbers.
